ABOUT THIS TOOL

Decode is not signature verification

A JWT can be decoded because its header and payload are Base64URL-encoded; that does not prove the signature is trustworthy. DevPayload keeps this distinction explicit while letting you inspect token contents without sending them to the server.

COMMON USES

Useful for everyday developer work

  • Inspect claims while debugging authentication flows.
  • Read exp information without using a remote decoder.
  • Create HS256 test tokens with a secret kept in browser memory.
HOW IT WORKS

  3. Review, copy or download the result.
PRIVACY

Local by default

This public tool runs in your browser. Its input is not written to the DevPayload database.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Does decoding prove a JWT is valid?

No. Decoding only reads the encoded header and payload. Signature verification is a separate cryptographic operation.

Is my JWT or HS256 secret sent to DevPayload?

No. Normal JWT decode and HS256 encode operations run locally in your browser, and the secret is kept in memory only.

Do I need an account?

No. Public deterministic tools work without signing in.
